likely pump is failing. But go with simplest thing first. Any catches or is it still smooth?

Dont' use ATF, it's not the same thing. If you have a Honda, you may need a particular spec of P/S fluid for your application.

I had to replace the power steering pump with all the belts and stuff. I was about to lose my steering when I took it in.

The car's 1999 and 250,000+ miles. Not surprised something new wore out.

It's a manual Honda Accord. It drives great otherwise and I don't want to replace it -- yet.
