Crown gas station on Midlothian turnpike. We stopped to get gas and there he was just sitting under an umbrella at the exit of the car wash. Probably figuring out how to fire his agent that booked that gig.

I was at a loss. I couldn't think of a three decade long pitcher. Nolan Ryan, but he won only with the Mets in 69, I think.

BTW I have a friend who, in high school, hit a home run off of Palmer.

Also, there is another great trivia question associated with Palmer.

9. When I saw that statistic

I remember thinking, wow, I never would have thought of Jim Palmer. Like you, my first thought was of the Ryan express, Clemens, or Neikro.

The never giving up a slam was icing on the cake, no?
