Hummingbirds came back today to my porch with the warm weather

1. Mine are still AWOL.

3. They'll probably be back, they take time to sort out their territory and get their nest in order

5. I've slightly changed my nectar recipe.

Maybe they don't like it.

I read that you don't need to boil the water and sugar.
Just let the sugar dissolve in room temp water.

Maybe the hummies are boycotting my new nectar.

7. That's the way I mix it, 1/4 cup sugar in the measuring cup then fill it with warm water mix it up

I read somewhere that they really don’t have much sense of taste or smell. It’s the color that attracts. Mine didn’t show up for quite a few days in a row. This morning male and female both were back.

14. My theory is that all the pink flowers are coming out right now and they get lots of nourishment there

Mine were nowhere to be seen for about three days when the weather got cold and windy.

I wouldn't consider drinking tap water myself unless it was boiled first.

8. Where do you live?

I’m in Portland, Oregon and we have Anna’s hummingbirds year round. During a late winter storm I brought the feeder inside to change the nectar and was unable to hang outside for several days because the snow was too deep. Alas, they haven’t yet returned. 😢

10. I live in Delaware, don't be too discouraged I feel that way every time I haven't seen them. They'll likely be back

I’ve been getting the ruby-throats at my feeders every year for 10 years or so. I think some of them come back from last year. They nest in the sweet gum tree here. Good luck

9. Mine came back about a week ago. They were hitting my canna blooms hard so I put out a fresh

16. Noticed a hummingbird

enjoying the hummingbird swing we have hanging up several times today! Normally they don’t discover it until late June. Also noticed today the wrens nesting in our wren house feeding babies!
