How did you get such a great picture?

We have a Soliom hummingbird feeder/camera. They weren’t using the perch that came with it so hubby made a slightly larger perch out of copper 12 gauge wire, and now they’ll sit while they drink most of the time. We had 70 visits the other day!

A plate glass window in the back door and I can shoot pictures from about 5 feet away. The Hummers have come back every year for the past 10 years or so. I don’t have a lot of them like my friend in New Mexico does. But here in Delaware they like to nest in the sweetgum tree out in my backyard. Sounds like you have a really good set up there. I never get nearly that many visits

We live in a wooded development in Newark. I figure they're nesting someplace close because as soon as my husband cleans and refills the feeders, they're back. The UD IT dept is still primarily working from home so I have my setup in the dining room. Last year one would hover in front of the dining room window. I figured it was trying to tell me the feeder was either empty or needed freshening up.

We see the female a bunch more than the male, but they both visit frequently.

You must have had your feeders out early to catch the eye of the first male arrivals. I didn't put my first feeder out until the last week of April, and there were no takers. I put up a second feeder last Saturday and a female was at the feeders the next day. I think the females are quite beautiful as well.

Then I saw a male about a week later. They were pretty much right on time. They looked like they had been here last year maybe. She made herself right at home when she arrived
