... I encountered a Great Grey flying at eye level to my right in the opposite direction. He (she?) turned to look at me briefly, decided I was too big to eat, and continued on her way.
They're not commonly seen in central Vermont. They're the largest owl in North America, and it's interesting that most of their size is feathers. Their skulls are a fraction of the size of the feathered countenance.
