New bird in my back yard - Blue-headed Vireo

5. The indigo bunting is striking.

The vireo is cool, too. I had never heard of the species.

9. Gorgeous. i have robin nesting on 4 eggs on the sill outside the bedroom. I've been watching

her from just a few inches away (unless she catches me peeking, then she flies off.) so now I'm more stealthy

10. We had a momma mallard in our yard last night

With a brood of 12! Our indoor cats went crazy. At one point, she tucked all 12 underneath her.

I've seen all of those birds in my yard over the years. I leave the standing dead trees for the woodpeckers too. Of course i get robins and blue jays and cardinals too. I was thinking of setting up a bird bath this year...

14. I'm in Western Mass...

a few miles away from Vermont. I was excited the first time I saw an Indigo Bunting, i'll admit. It is a startling blue. Near the field down the road the other day i saw a redwinged blackbird (i think)...
