I guess my hummingbirds are heading south for the winter.

My feeders have been pretty busy all summer up until today. All day long, I've only seen one little bird. I've noticed that some of the birds over the last couple of weeks have acted a little differently which led me to believe that they were visitors just passing through. I'm going to miss those little guys.

I'll go ahead and keep the feeders up for another week or so for stragglers, but it seems the season is winding down.

Tucson. If I forget to take the feeders down at night, they are empty in the morning. Though I'll take bats over bears. Also, lot's of migrants coming through, a couple species I don't see except spring and fall.

Males go first after they have their feeding frenzies at our feeders. Then the females and the youg leave, so keep your feeders topped until the first frost...or so I am told.

eat. They are always driving each other off the feeders. And there is plenty for every one but they are just little jerks to each other.

getting shorter. As long as the weather holds, they should have good food supplies for their trip south.

I'll leave the feeders up for a few more days, but it looks like it's time to put them away till spring.

I tried a new product this year to keep ants out of my feeders and it worked great.

You coat the inside of the "bell" with petroleum jelly and it discourages the ants from crawling any further. I haven't had to clean a single any out of the feeders this year.

And before I got this posted, I look up and there is a little female at the feeder right now. I guess they stay up for a few more days.
