I've been observing a wren's nest on my front porch. I didn't know it was there

until I observed them flying in with food a couple of days ago. I just saw one of them fly in with a worm and then fly away with what appeared to be part of an eggshell.

Do the eggs hatch over a number of days or was this delayed housekeeping? I've heard that the shells are discarded away from the nest so they don't attract predators, but this is the first time I've seen it.

( derived from my father‘s middle name) Her idea of housekeeping is to eat it. Everything.

had to take turns feeding the young'ns. They nested in a little metal watering can I had hung up for decoration. I can watch them from my front door.
