Birders
Related: About this forumA red shouldered hawk fledgling has been screaming just outside all afternoon
The parents are around and it keeps screaming for food - I'm not sure if they are still feeding it. It's in an oak tree, about 20 feet outside the upstairs room where my husband keeps his computer and it's driving him up the wall.
I got some pictures, but I have to do something to my website to be able to post them here. Maybe I can get it done tomorrow.

(34,189 posts)They used to hang around with the fledglings just outside the barns in the morning. When we walk in to feed the horses, the wrens and mice would go out and the hawks would get meals.
When my bird feeders and bird baths are set up, the hawks will hang out in the oak tree where the fledgling is now and stoop on the birds at the feeder or bird bath. It's pretty startling to have a hawk swoop down that close to the window!
I got shots of the nest in a live oak just a bit farther away - I'm not sure if it is a hawk or a squirrel nest. I just wish the red shoulder hawks were big enough to reduce the squirrel population a bit more.

(103,808 posts)fledglings protest and call for food even when they parents won't bring them any. It'l last a few days to a week and that should be it.

(34,189 posts)I sort of wonder if the one calling from the lower pasture is a sibling rather than Mama. Usually the only time we hear this much noise from the red shoulders is when they are mating, with two or three males following a female around. That is mostly because that is when we have our windows open.
