Birders
Related: About this forumCan anyone identify this bird?
I was going through some archives this morning and found this photo. My husband took it a couple years ago. From the looks of the trees, it was probably late spring or summer.
I have pored through my bird guide book and cant find anything with the same pattern on its feathers, and Im wondering now if its a juvenile, although its pretty big for a juvenile. I originally thought finch/sparrow with the short, stubby beak. But, again, the pattern on the feathers was not like anything nI could find in the book.
Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: it may be a juvenile male of the same. The darker/spotted wings make me suspect it is so. The streaks on the head are present on immature males, apparently, which I did not know previously.

(21,106 posts)World Britannica, we called these JeRee's. I have no idea why. I only learned they were Grosbeaks extremely later in my life.

(31,989 posts)I agree that it must be a grosbeak. We just started seeing the adults come around after we put out the black oiled sunflower seeds.
