eating insects like a champion. I was so glad to see him

It's so damn hot here in the summer, it's a pleasure to see them when it's cold.

one of the first birds I ever tried to ID was a Red-headed Woodpecker. It was in Biloxi, Mississippi. Birds like that made me a birder. I still don't have a picture of one.

But they are so lovely in person to see

ETA: And I'm about 30 miles from Biloxi We have more gorgeous birds than you could name. Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mockingbirds shrieking out their authority in every way imaginable, it's great .

they love the dead pines at the edge of the lake. I've got some great pics somewhere (probably my external HD - meaning I may never find them again!).

One of our favorite birds!

He was totally awesome. I have the downy, hairy, and ladder-backed redbellied wookpeckers, but the red-headed one is the most beautiful. Took my breath away to watch him...

No wonder you were excited, I still am. No picture here either.

I hope we get to see him again this year. Gotta keep buying peanuts and making suet....
