Because I wouldn't want them to fly away before I got my camera.

Are there dark headed bald eagles (beatnik eagles)?

I googled. Apparently juvenile.

There's one bastard that I've almost run over on more than one occasion. He likes to eat roadkill where the road cuts through the woods on the other side of a hill by my house. You're cruising along at 60 mph, crest the hill, yell profanities and slam on your brakes because you don't want to run over the national bird sitting in the middle of the road, eating a flattened squirrel. Other times he circles my chicken coop, looking for way past the chicken wire.

Still incredibly majestic though.

You may have seen this . . . roadkill; a flock of black vultures enjoying a feast until an eagle flies in; the vultures scatter; eagle takes over as the sole diner; vultures maintain a respectful distance and don't challenge the eagle.

We live on the Potomac River were it joins the Chesapeake Bay. Lots of eagles around and we are overrun by their cousins, the osprey. Most eagles I have seen in one group was three. A pair nests in top of a tall tree about 1/4 mile from us.
