(5,946 posts)I think I saw some wrens. Well, they were small and brown I put out some bird seed I got, it is good to throw on the driveway if you run out of sand or kitty litter. The squirrels come out and eat it and melt down the snow a little, ha ha . I am sure the birds are happy, there is not much out there now and my birder neighbors have moved so they need something.

I've already seen several Purple Martins, which are early migrants. Also I've heard and seen a number of Northern Parulas, which winter here in small numbers. These might be early migrants. Also, Swallow-tail Kites are already being reported, but I've seen none yet. (Edit: I just saw some Swallow-tail Kites the next day, March 1)
I think spring is the best time of year for birding.

(18,219 posts)We broke a low record last night at -8 degrees. And there is a big snow storm on the way.
And my herald of spring is the Turkey Vulture, which I normally see at some point in February, but that didn't happen this year. I think that this is Groundhog Day and winter will never end.
