Oil spill at the Houston Ship Channel
This is the worst possible time for an oil spill in the Galveston/Houston area, since there are millions of birds that migrate through that area, and this is breeding season for birds that make that area their homes. I no longer live in Houston, but when I was there, I did wildlife rehabilitation with an organization that split into two groups, Wildlife Center of Texas and Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition. They have a vast Oil Spill Response Team, and I have no doubt that they will be busy dealing with wildlife affected by this spill.
If you have the ability to donate to them, I know that the money will be well used in efforts to take care of any oiled birds or other animals affected by this. Just want to give anyone who wants to do something to help a way of doing something. But don't feel bad if you have nothing to donate, since the oil refineries in that area do a lot to help them. Isn't it wonderful to have two organizations in one area dedicated to helping wildlife? I didn't realize how lucky we were until I move to a place where rehabbers are not exactly welcome.

And if you just want to get pissed off:
Government records show the Miss Susan has been involved in a string of 20 accidents and incidents reported to the Coast Guard in the past dozen years, including two other accidents that occurred when the boat was pushing barges containing oil or asphalt.
