Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk - Ramble of Central Park, NYC

Ruben Giron

The Ramble is the most well-known of the Park’s three woodland landscapes, which offer visitors an experience of the woods in the center of New York. Its 36 acres were designed to look like the forests of upstate New York and include winding paths and trails, rustic bridges, a meandering stream, dramatic rock outcroppings, and dense plantings. The Ramble is a popular destination for exploring and enjoying nature and is also one of the best places in the Park for birdwatching.

He arrived in Central Park in 1991 and set up a nest on 5th Avenue. He has survived several mates and is the longest lived, recorded Red Tailed Hawk that has ever been recorded.

Documentary, "Pale Male," was made about him, narrated by Joann Woodward and is/was available on Netflix DVD.

The importance of the documentary is that I am seen in it for about 1/5th of a second.
