Jaguars' win after trailing 27-0 was NFL's fifth-biggest comeback

The NFL’s fifth-biggest comeback ever took place on Saturday night in Jacksonville, when the Jaguars fell behind 27-0 in the first half only to win 31-30 on a field goal as time expired.

Two of the NFL’s five biggest comebacks have happened in the last month: The biggest comeback in NFL history took place on December 17, when the Colts jumped out to a 33-0 lead over the Vikings at halftime, only to have the Vikings win 39-36 in overtime.

Prior to that Vikings-Colts comeback, the biggest comeback in NFL history was 32 points, when the Houston Oilers took a 35-3 win over the Bills in a playoff game on January 3, 1993, but the Bills came back to win 41-38 in overtime.

The NFL has also seen two 28-point comebacks: In a playoff game on January 4, 2014, the Colts fell behind the Chiefs 38-10 but the Colts came back and won 45-44. And in a regular-season game on December 7, 1980, Archie Manning and the Saints jumped out to a 35-7 halftime lead, but Joe Montana and the 49ers rallied to win 38-35. Now the Jaguars’ comeback takes its place alongside those other games among the great comebacks in NFL history.

The Chargers held the lead on every offensive possession in the second half and lost.

Tony Dungy talked about the colts big comeback win when he was coach.

He said, halftime "I just told them to keep chipping away. If we score on our first possession and stop them, then it's just a two score game and anything can happen."

They stopped the chargers, then got a TD, two score game.

Without some horrific officiating that all seemed to benefit the chargers, especially a ball that clearly hit the ground that the refs called a catch for the chargers.

Hopefully, this will put an end to the Justin Herbert is as good as Mahomes, Burrow, and Allen after he blew a game that his defense generated 5 turnovers with multiple short fields. The likelihood of losing a game that you are are +4 or more in turnovers is less than 0.1%,but Herbert and crew managed it.

Of course, Bosa behaving like a child and throwing his helmet on the field instead of by the bench was what allowed the FG to win the game instead of send it to overtime.

Those refs were horrible. They swallowed the whistle on every defeihold, illegal contact, etc on the Chargers.

I thought the Jaguars were done for so I changed the channel at the half. I checked later to see how big the Chargers win was going to be only to see an exciting comeback. The field goal attempt with 3 seconds left was a nail biter. I was very happy for Doug Pederson who led my beloved Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in 2017.
