Brees kept playing with 5 broken ribs!
3 from the week before and 2 in the last game. I cannot imagine---he is one tough dude!
I broke several ribs when I fell off a ladder while painting. I finished painting, put the ladder in the basement, then sat on the couch. Eventually, the pain became unbearable and I knew something was up. By the time I got to the ER, I was a miserable wretch. [link:https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30342698/second-opinions-confirm-injuries-new-orleans-saints-qb-drew-brees-source-says| Remarkably, Brees stayed in the game for the final eight minutes of the first half Sunday after absorbing a big hit by 49ers defensive tackle Kentavius Street -- finishing one touchdown drive, then completing five passes on another TD drive. He was unable to continue in the second half, though.
A source told Werder that Brees broke two ribs on his right side during the first half of the 49ers game -- and that doctors believe those fractures may have punctured his lung, creating a pneumothorax. Doctors also discovered three fractured ribs on Brees' left side, which are believed to have occurred a week earlier in a 38-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

1. That's why they have shots for pain
Of course Tyrod Taylor was getting a shot and they punctured his lung.

2. Not much you can do for ribs
Other than mega-pain medicine. They gave me some hardcore stuff but it made me "off" so I saved that for sleeping, which was the worst part (mainly getting in and out of bed). I just took mega-ibuprofen during the day and whined a lot until they started to feel better in about 4-5 weeks.

6. That's very dangerous.
If a rib is broken such that it is splintered that like having a knife blade close to the lungs, heart, and major blood vessels.

7. No he is
not one tough dude. I find it to be a very stupid thing to do because a rib can puncture a lung. Then he would be out of the game for weeks.

8. It did puncture a lung
And I'm sure he's out a while. I doubt he knew they were broken...I didn't know mine were...but there had to have been some pain. I thought would just have bruising until the x-rays came. As others (& I) have attested, there is a delay before the pain gets crazy
