LSU set to hire Notre Dame's Brian Kelly as next head football coach, sources say

In a stunning move, Brian Kelly is leaving Notre Dame to become the next head football coach at LSU, sources told ESPN.

An agreement likely will be finalized in the next 24 hours.

Kelly, in his 12th season at Notre Dame, will replace Ed Orgeron, whom LSU announced on Oct. 17 would not return as coach of the Tigers in 2022, less than two years removed from an undefeated season and national championship.

Kelly, 60, is the winningest coach in Notre Dame history with 92 victories. He guided Notre Dame to the BCS title game in 2012 and to College Football Playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020.

I'd stick with Notre Dame unless he has some tie to LSU or Louisiana. Hoyt Nov 2021 #1

But, who knows what BS he gets at ND. Then again, LSU doesn’t appear loyal.

Can he recruit in the state? I’m guessing not, which is okay with this Bama fan!

I saw/heard her twice before big games call up Coach Gene Stalling. She got through and talked several minutes. She even told him how much she loved his son “John.” She didn’t know Stallings from chit, yet got thru and talked for awhile.

I think Alabama girls are just good with people, except for hardcore rubes.

Yeah, I think LSU is quite different from Notre Dame.

New football coach Brian Kelly and LSU agreed to a deal that made him the highest paid coach at a public university in the country, according to a term sheet obtained Tuesday night by The Advocate through a public records request.

While Kelly’s contract will pay him $95 million total in base salary, a longevity bonus will push his total compensation to at least $100 million over the life of the 10-year contract, which made him the first coach at a public school with a nine-figure deal.

Kelly’s salary will start at $9 million per year his first season. It then rises in increments through 2031. The contract, which Kelly signed Tuesday on his way to Baton Rouge, needs approval from the LSU board of supervisors and is pending a background check.
