No skin thick enough: The daily harassment of women in the game industry - NSFW

In my opinion this is an exceptionally sad state of affairs, that anyone undergo harassment. I have blanked out words that might be offensive in this post, however they are very much present on the linked article.

Content warning: This post contains graphic language, slurs and triggering content

"Women are the (******) of gender," the email said. "If you killed yourself, I wouldn’t even (****) the corpse."

I blinked at my phone, fighting simultaneous urges to hurl my phone across the room in anger and cry. Later that day, someone texted me my address — telling me they’d "See me when I least expected it."

I haven’t been out to my car at night by myself since January 2nd.

My name is Brianna Wu. I lead a development studio that makes games. Sometimes, I write about issues in the games industry that relate to the equality of women. My reward is that I regularly have men threatening to rape and commit acts of violence against me.

just to see what would happen.

It was incredible. Constant IMs and emails guaranteeing me great sex and pictures of 'shopped 18" wood. One of them had a woman doing chinups on his bone and I kinda wish I still had that one. It was funny.

Anyway, the amount of abuse she/I got was amazing. Not just the constant come ons, but the anger when I didn't answer them, or blew them off. It was intimidating even though I knew it was all bogus. What real women put up with has got to be horrible.

Yeah, it's not all guys, and it's probably not all the time, but it looks like it's still enough guys to make life miserable. And it interferes with getting the job done.
