Please move if not right place. Is there a reason why we can not get ammunition right now?

My husband goes to the range to practice and deer hunts and also dove hunts.

He can't find ammunition right now that is not 3x of the cost it should be.

Is the price gouge because of tariffs? Pandemic? dumbass policies a combo? What am I missing?

I googled it to see if I was on track in my thinking.

https://www.petersenshunting.com/editorial/whats-behind-the-ammunition-shortage/387187

A pandemic, civil unrest and the fear of a gun-control-happy administration has caused both weapon and ammunition sales to skyrocket in 2020. With more people interested gun ownership and increased ammo hoarding, gun stores have been left barren. Many hunters looking to buy a box of their go-to ammo has been left heartbroken after walking into their local sporting goods store to find nothing but empty shelves.

Same thing happened when Obama took office. Every gun store would tell you the Dems in general, and Obama in particular, were coming for your guns, so you better buy as many as you can carry, and stock up on ammo. It made no difference that it was not true. Ammunition skyrocketed, if you could find it at all.

According to him, it’s a shortage due to people freaking out and hoarding ammo due to uncertainty and fear over both Covid and the election.

I feel like Barney Fife--I got 20 bullets from my brother for the .38 we have for the farm.

People saw news footage of rioting, arson and looting on TV and were concerned it might spread beyond legitimate protesting.

I thought it might be from dumbass's Tarif or covid

it can't be because of Biden because he has had trouble for the last 6 months.

Those were riots like a walk in an arboredum is exploration of virgin jungle. They barely qualify as civil disorder. The vast bulk of the violence and disruption owed to police assaults on demonstrators.

I have no idea what your age is, but I have seen tanks cruising the streets of American cities. My first apartment was in a neighborhood where buildings were still scorched ruins from the year before. There are areas in my city that are still open lots from the destruction of more than a half century ago, it was that thorough in some areas. There were numerous fatalities, it was something looked forward to for several years running, the 'long hot summer' was a serious expectation.

The coverage of what happened in my city last year was something we sat around and laughed at. The news-crews found a couple of downtown shop windows broken, and enthused over it for literally hours. There were areas where it was a bit more sketchy, but nothing remotely resembling an actual riot.

I understand there are places and pockets where people seem to honestly believe that cities were reduced to burnt-out wastelands last year. They are also places where people think Trump is a glorious leader and horse de-wormer cures covid. Areas of vicious ignorance, in short. I am utterly out of patience with such swill, and the shit-heels who give it credence.

"I don't see no riot here! Why you all in riot gear?"

Not looking good for an extended stay at DU. I don't believe I've ever seen Magistrate reply so harshly.

When a Democrat moves into the White House firearms and ammo makers can expect increased demand and higher profits. Many people are concerned that there will be restrictive laws passed and want to stockpile while they can.
Many people who had never owned a firearm and hadn't planned on owning one saw the RW nutjobs on TV and on the streets protesting and decided that this would be a great time to purchase a firearm and learn how to use it properly. This increased the demand for ammo greatly. Many of these new owners knew little about firearms and just bought whatever they could get ammo for. I am not saying if this was good or bad. I am just saying that this is what happened.
There was also a group of people who assumed that the orange one would remain in office and felt safe in keeping a small supply of ammo for their personal use. When they saw him lose they panicked and bought everything they could get their hands on. This increased the shortage and when others saw the dwindling supply on the shelves they too rushed to buy as much as they could find.
There are undoubtedly other contributing reasons, but this is what I observed around here.
The ammo supply is slowly increasing, but we will never see it as abundant or cheap as it was two years ago.
