Lots of vigour, but little quality. Especially in the final third. The BBC studio crowd and commentators thought it was terrific, so mine is a minority opinion.

But, yes, Spain were horrendous in the final third, and Italy wasn't allowed much time there to begin with.

The teams had met 6 times previously in the Euros. Each had 2 wins, plus 2 draws. Seems appropriate that this one went to PK's.

Before the shootout, Chiellini gave a masterclass in psyching out Jordi Alba

I noticed the interaction before the penalty toss. If I were Jordi Alba, I might have been tempted to knock Chiellini's block off at that bit of patronising Italian gamesmanship.
