Buenos Aires —> Bariloche by air

Then by rental car:
Bariloche —> the national parks nearby —> Pucon —> puerto Montt —> Chaiten - got blocked by volcanic eruption and had to take the car back to Puerto Montt —> Osorno (all good and beautiful) —> Bariloche —> Futuleafu —> as far as I could get into the Carreterre Austral before turning back —> Futuleafu —> Bariloche.

Bariloche —> El Calafate by air

By Rental Car:
Calafate —> Perito Moreno Glacier —> 30k hike to Cerro Torre and views of Mt Fitzroy —> Torres del Paine National Park and about 80k of hiking —> Puntas Arenas —> got the car on a ferry to cross the Strait of Magellan to Tierra del Fuego —> Crossed the island on a very remote dirt road to the Argentinian side and drove to Ushuaia —> more national parks, hiking, and a boat ride in the Beagle Strait to checkout Antarctic wildlife —> Rio Gallegos after being the last car to fit on the last midnight ferry cross Magellan again with no hotels at all (whew! I love to wing it - if I was with my wife, she would have killed me for the risks I took!) —> El Calafate

El Calafate —> Buenos Aires by air
Buenos Aires —> NYC

Was fun. DM me and I can send a FB link with some pics.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.

Tell me more...
