Spent the day with relatives at Senecaville Lake in Ohio

known locally as Seneca Lake, it is a man-made lake in East Central Ohio, straddles Guernsey and Noble Counties, and no matter how you approach, you're going to enjoy a pleasant, easy drive.

MY nephew and his wife have retired and have an rv. They are travelling across the country, picking random destinations. They have a few regular stops to visit relatives, and Seneca Lake is one of them. Seneca Lake is a state park, has several camping choices, and lots of entertainment options. There are several stores around the perimeter, and it isn't far from Cambridge, Ohio. My nephew and his wife invited us to spend the day. We had a wonderful time. We had a picnic/cookout, lots of catching up and new stories to add. They rented a pontoon boat, and after we ate, we all went out on the lake. We anchored in a designated boat/swimming spot, and several of the group enjoyed a pleasant swim. It was such good old-fashioned fun. After swimming, a couple of the kids tried fishing with lures. Didn't catch anything. The boat anchor got stuck in the muddy bottom, and several of the younger kids had a turn at trying to pull the anchor out of the muck, as my nephew maenuvered the boat to find an angle to free the blades. When one of my great nieces pulled the anchor free, it came up with about 10 lbs of solid mud clutched in the upper part of the anchor blades. Ohio is famous for its pottery, and I guess I got a glimpse of the raw material As I sat and watched the younger generations swimming, boating, and listened to the various bits of conversation, I actually felt like I was my Mom sitting there, and there was a kind of peace to that mindfulness.

Even though the weather prediction called for rain and storms all day, we had a sunny day, cool lake breeze, such pleasant time spent outdoors. It is only about 1/2 hour drive from Marietta to Seneca Lake. We left before dark, and drove right into a powerful thunderstorm. Buckets of rain slamming into the windshield, lightning streaking through the sky, then suddenly illuminating clouds as the storm rushed over us. My daughter did an amazing job of driving through the hazards. We were on the interstate, and all of the drivers around us reduced speed and had hazard lights on, which really helped us all get through safely. Our phones started alerting for a tornado warning. We were northwest of the track, so we got to her house, and some of us went to the basement until the threat was passed. I got home and slept like a rock

I have been to Seneca Lake several times in the past, but I think this visit was one of the best

My best friends mom grew up in Pleasant City, a little town close to Seneca Lake. I’d go with them to visit her grandma who made good vegetable soup and homemade rolls. Also in my waaaay back church days there was a southern baptist camp at the lake where we would go for weekend retreats. I don’t attend church any longer but have some fun memories of being there with my friends. Glad you had a wonderful day there!
