German too. Ich spreche kein deutch. Or ich spreche nicht deutch. I dunno, i will never get it.
I use duolingo though so it's helping a bit, but the french is harder than everything else i have going right now.https://www.duolingo.com

The first is more informal.

7. I think it's better to learn more formal German first. Then pick up the informal lingo.

I took German in school - the formal version. Then worked with two native speakers - they clued me in on the casual, informal terms.

Apparently it's an important distinction, depending on who you're addressing. I never quite figured that out.

9. I find spanish to be like that too.

I had to take it in school to learn the 'right' way. My spanish is still terrible compared to everybody else. But i speak L.A. Spanish.
Good advice though, i may actually need to use it one day at work with a client.
