A request.

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by longship (a host of the Religion group).

I am going to make a simple request of folks in forum, namely, that people please not use the N-Word here.

It's use contributes absolutely nothing to discussions of issues here, and actually has precisely the opposite effect of shutting down productive discussion.

That's all.

Wow, I must have missed something. I've never seen blatant racism in this forum, and only relatively rarely on DU as a whole, other than from the occasional passing troll. But in any event, I could not agree with you more.

As someone with a master's in Communication, I fully understand how and why blacks reclaimed "nigger" and the LGBT community reclaimed "queer."

Especially given your horror at the word "militant". (Which for the record, you aren't; militants don't hide their opinions IRL.)

It was a comparison in the reclamation of language by oppressed minorities. A useful tactic in demolishing a hateful label.

Why don't you start a screed against the use of the word "bigot"? Or "arsehole"? Or any of the other words that are used here for no other reason than that the posters have nothing more intelligent to say?
