Soccer Camp Angers Some Parents With Surprise Bible Talk for KidsA free soccer camp in a Queens park is being used to teach the Gospel to kids by a group of missionaries who mix dribbling skills with post-game prayers and Bible stories, many parents said.
The informal camp has been holding sessions at Rory Staunton Field on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons since June 1. But parents were not told that the organizers' goal is to preach, they said. --snip-- They created a two-hour soccer plan that has a 25-minute “debrief” after the game where kids can get to know each other and talk about their issues, as well as pray and learn about the Bible, he said. The camp didn't require any prior sign-up or parental consent, Joseph said, and kids could come in to play on their own. The sign outside states that it's a free soccer camp but doesn't mention any group affiliation or religious overtones. http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20140731/jackson-heights/soccer-camp-angers-some-parents-with-surprise-bible-talk-for-kids What? They weren't trying to convert anyone. They didn't think it would be a problem at all. Why would anyone have a problem with this we simply don't know! ![]()

1. Seems that there should have been more honesty about their mission.

12. Of course there is. It is the starting point for religion.
And beside that, it is justified frequently for a huge number of reasons.
Are you agreeing with Kant that when the murderer comes to your door looking for his victim you must honestly tell him that she is in the attic? |

14. So now we agree that situational ethics apply to honesty.
The theists who believe their god has commanded them to save the immortal souls of unsuspecting children are acting out of their sincere convictions that the situation requires them to be less than honest about what they are up to.

16. If you understood situational ethics you would know that is not a lie by definition.
But nuance doesn't work to well when you're looking through flash cards.

9. The kids are the ones who lose
They get to liking playing soccer, but they have to listen to silly bible stories in order to play. There should be a law against this, and it has nothing to do with a permit. Teaching the bible to kids who's parents have no idea what's going on, or kids who don't want to hear it should be the same as yelling profanities at them. And parents who don't know what's going on should be looked at more carefully.

10. It seems the First Amendment stands in the way.
Last edited Fri Aug 1, 2014, 01:11 AM - Edit history (1) A baptism is essentially an unwritten contract, yet children, who cannot enter contracts, who cannot legally consent to sex with other children the same approximate age, nor vote, nor do many other legal adult activities, can still be baptized. The Christians have infiltrated the New Age channeling sites and posted their theologies about Jesus and such all over the place, Christian graffiti. They have made a mockery of Pope John Paul's II apology to Pagans and peoples of other faiths in the pursuit of power and domination of others.

11. Imagine how this group would scream out
if the proselytizing were done by another religion. Or even another philosophy, like Buddhism. They'd bring out the pitchforks.
