NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – The group American Decency says thousands of right-wing Christians will demonstrate at AT&T Stadium Sunday to protest the Dallas Cowboys signing Michael Sam to its practice squad.

Sam is the first openly gay player drafted to the NFL.

Jack Burkman heads the group which claims to have 3.62 million members in 41 states. Burkman says, “We cannot just stand idly by as Christian values and morals are trampled. We will do whatever we can to preserve family values in this country.”

Rafael McDonnell of the Resource Center, which provides services to the LGBT community, says Sam could help the Cowboys win on and off the field. “He is a talented football player, and if he can help us win, it’s a bonus that he happens to be part of the LGBT community. It shines a light about how difficult it is to be open and out at your job.”

Cowboys are playing the '49ers.

I'm assuming "thousands of right-wing Christians" don't have tickets to the game and will be demonstrating outside AT&T Stadium on Sunday.

Hateful people. Let's see how many really show up. Do you think they will wear sheets?

I seriously doubt more than a handful will show, and they'll be holding some kind of sign, which they are probably working on as we speak!

It makes me sick, too!

The game is on FOX and it might be on TV here...I'll be watching!

Not a football fan, but I am Michael Sam fan. I won't see the game, but will watch for some followup on this story.

for huge amounts of money. Christian values and morals, to these people, are clearly about the sanctity of one set of uniforms and pads hitting another, and keeping that pure from the private life of one of the inhabitants of those sets of pads. Sure, you have to print their names on the uniforms because there's no other way to tell which is which, but just the thought that one of those guys has thoughts about other guys in his free time is enough to threaten family values, obviously.

I'm going to guess that 'American Decency' has not bothered demonstrating against football players convicted of domestic violence. Because they would be unable to see what that has to do with their 'family values'.
