GOP House Candidate: ‘Atheist Agenda’ Caused Sandy Hook Shooting

http://www.mediaite.com/online/gop-house-candidate-atheist-agenda-caused-sandy-hook-shooting/

A Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives once blamed the Sandy Hook school shooting on the “atheist agenda that has permeated every corner of our society.”

Zach Dasher, who is a nephew of Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson and recently received the Robinson family’s endorsement, is trying to unseat Rep. Vance McAllister, who became known as the “kissing comgressman” earlier this year. Despite first saying he won’t seek re-election, McAllister has since changed his mind about that.

Dasher made the comments just three days after the Sandy Hook shooting while hosting a podcast titled “Why Did This Happen” on a website he ran.

“He was made in the image of God,” Dasher said of the shooter. “But somewhere along the way he believed what the atheist says. He reduced humanity to nothing more than a collection of atoms, to be discarded like an old banana peel. I guarantee you, now this is my hypothesis, that even saw himself as nothing more than chemicals.”

The astonishing thing is, he's correct. That was right in the agenda I received at the latest meeting of the Evil Atheist Conspiracy.

to shoot up any collection of children if we think it's a good idea.

Or maybe he was busy working out which sports team was going to win that week. Or arranging to appear on a pizza. You know, moving in mysterious ways.

when someone believes they get to decide who is a "devout" or "real" Christian, then they can just arbitrarily declare when someone is or is not a member of their faith. Pretty nice arrangement!

They're planning world domination and how to crush religious groups and institutions, which is troubling.

But the buffet is just so damn tasty.

Two different conversations, one 'grr that obummer's a muslim' and then later that day 'grr that obummer's an atheist'.

I fear for the average IQ of this nation.

This yoyo belongs to a cult that's killed millions and millions of people in the last 2000 years and now he's trying to blame innocent Atheists for something they wouldn't do!

It doesn't have an agenda any more than those who don't believe in Zeuss have an azeussist agenda.
It doesn't have an agenda any more than those who don't believe in Thor have an athorist agenda.
It doesn't have an agenda any more than those who don't believe in unicorns have an a-unicornist agenda.

Atheism is no more a belief system than bald is a hair color.

Why is that so freaking hard for people to understand?

I mean, I've had lots of agendas in life, but I don't know that I can link any of them to the absence of a belief in some sort of supreme being.

I generally find religion-based activity rather mystifying, but I'm glad that my country has probably the greatest level of religious diversity in the world. So... nope - no agenda here...

I do, however, reserve the right to criticize idiots like this Dasher kid who use the language of religion to spread bullshit in the pursuit of election to office...

Also, when I really think about it, I have one friend who is both a gun nut and pretty much an atheist. I've never met another of that combination, but I've sure met lots of 'Christian' gun nuts...

I hope that I can make it through my life without ever owning one. I killed a doe once as a youth (deer hunting) and the experience was very unpleasant.

It's fascinating to me that I have always seen more respect for life in general among fellow atheists(the comparatively few that I have had the good fortune to know in my life) than among the highly vocal class of self-declared 'Christians.'

What is it about religions such as Christianity that so effectively facilitates people who are inclined to blame other people for all their problems (or those of their societies, where real 'fault' is generally shared by many?)

I swear, they breed in the dark, in the safe.

But I also live by the non-aggression principle. I haven't initiated harm against another human since the 6th grade, and I don't believe I ever will. (I am capable of considerable violence in self-defense or defense of others, but so is any animal, sufficiently provoked.)

I've even been handed a couple serious gut-checks by scientists studying cognitive function in certain animals (as a hunter and a fisherman) as to which species ought to have serious consideration for their self-awareness/consciousness, and maybe, not just a simple food source after all. My days as a hunter/fisherman may be coming to an end. Zoos make me uncomfortable, to be honest. Its a quandary to me, I want my kid to see these animals, to know they are real, and what other forms of life are like, but on the other hand, I view their incarceration in little pens as cruel.

Had an opportunity to take my kid to SeaWorld last week. Skipped it. Can't support a program that pens up intelligent cetaceans like that. Killing and eating an animal is one thing, animals do that to each other all the time. There's always a bigger fish, right? But to keep them in pens, make them do tricks for food, to breed them, and then strip away their young, from a clearly intelligent and social animal... That seems such an obvious and deep level of cruelty, I can't imagine how other people miss the connection.
