I was considering going to the library, Serfozo said. Thank God I didnt.

Is this just another example of Christian anti-intellectualism?
Or is there something deeper going on here?
I mean, I sure don't want to be an atheist Wolf Blitzer and put words in this woman's mouth.
Why in the world would a Christian thank God she didn't go to the library?

(13,437 posts)I don't think it means anything other than she felt relieved she did not go to the library presumably before the shootings occurred.

(48,181 posts)Oddly nobody is standing up to defend the actual implications of attributing survivor status (or football victory) to a deity. Instead, in an intellectually dishonest fashion, they are engaged in deflection, in faux outrage, in charade, all in an effort to not have that discussion.

(48,181 posts)The OP doesn't want to have a discussion about intercession by deity so the more the op bends in that direction the less happy the OP will be with the results.

This thread isn't about guns.
It's about libraries, and what Christians think about libraries.
When analyzing Christian comments about libraries, context must be ignored.
References to context will just get people upset.

You also expose yourself as an imposter by saying, "Some of us view libraries as sacred space."

(6,498 posts)I'm a mathematician.
It is quite natural for mathematicians to view libraries as sacred spaces.

Oh I know!
It's because there was a crazy gunman in the library!
imagine not wanting to be in the same room as a crazy gunman? Silly anti-intellectuals!

We are not supposed to mention context when analyzing statements made by religious folks.
Our task here is to derive the logical implications of her religious statement by combining our own views with hers in such a way as to demonstrate what Christians really think of libraries, by attributing our own logical conclusions to her.

(22,340 posts)Again, take some strawman building lessons before you try something like this again. You're just looking a little silly.

(22,340 posts)The statement has nothing to do with god hating libraries. Or anti-intellectualism.
You have friends in this group that can give you strawman building lessons because you need some.

(40,416 posts)So the comment was understandable and had nothing to do with anti-intellectualism, let alone god hating libraries.
