Peaceful Muslims are no more responsible for terror than I am for Murdoch, says Harry Potter author

JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, has condemned and mocked the tweet from Rupert Murdoch which insisted that even peaceful Muslims must bear responsibilities for jihadi attacks.

The author and the actor take aim at Murdoch's claim Muslims "must be held responsible"
Mary Elizabeth Williams

Whatever your race, religion, gender, or orientation, there are certain things almost everyone with a functioning human brain can agree on. Like the idiocy of Rupert Murdoch. Look how he brings people together!
On Twitter this weekend, two different high profile critics of the media baron/garbage idea generator deftly shut down his response to the brutal terror attacks in Paris, and his observation that Maybe most Moslems peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible. Murdoch then doubled down on his comment, asserting, Big jihadist danger looming everywhere from Philippines to Africa to Europe to US. Political correctness makes for denial and hypocrisy.
Not that anyone expects thoughtful, non-baiting commentary from Rupert Murdoch, but his remarks nonetheless drew a collective gasp across the Internet, a rightful shock at their insensitivity in the wake of tragedy. But it was author J.K. Rowling who first notably rushed to demolish Murdochs argument, as she retorted, I was born Christian. If that makes Rupert Murdoch my responsibility, Ill auto-excommunicate. She then added, to a tweeter who facetiously said, I personally never stop apologizing for the crusades, The Spanish Inquisition was my fault, as is all Christian fundamentalist violence. Oh, and Jim Bakker. And Rowling gets special butt kicking points because she didnt just go gunning for Murdoch she took a moment to reply to a rando troll with a US flag avatar and sixty followers who tried to assert that a real Gryffindor would speak out against terrorists, telling the user, Smart move, choosing to make your argument by referencing themes in Harry Potter. Keep that up, youre bound to win! Im just going to go ahead and store this entire episode in my mental box of Why J.K. Rowling continues to be a hero to my kids and me.
But Rowling wasnt alone in her disgust for Murdoch God knows thats a sizeable club. When Murdoch, perhaps feeling a bit more generous in his assessment of at least one of the millions of Muslims in the world, tweeted Sunday, Extraordinary scenes in Paris today, but do not forget the heroic sacrifice of Ahmed Merabet, Muslim police officer whose funeral was today, Aziz Ansari shot back, Quit back peddling you racist piece of sh_t. And in response to Murdochs previous claim that Muslims be held responsible, he asked, Rups can we get a step by step guide? How can my 60 year old parents in NC help destroy terrorist groups? Plz advise. Then going into full fury mode, he continued, Are you responsible for the evil shit all Christians do or just the insane amount of evil you yourself contribute to? @rupertmurdoch is responsible for all pedophilia committed by anyone Catholic. @rupertmurdoch why are you pro-pedophile

(3,585 posts)I don't know know how that relates to my post, if anything, saying, or thinking that someone can be born a Christian, is a secular idea, I think that Jews and Muslims are thought to be born into the religion, but not Christians since it is something that someone has to be themselves internally, it can't be imposed, or passed on.

(5,018 posts)You rarely hear about supply-side children or being born conservative except tongue in cheek maybe.
It's the idea that indoctrination of children into a religion is so normalized and tolerated that whatever religion the parents are, the child automatically is as well. It's the privilege of religion in society that allows this non-sensical idea to be widespread and embraced, and any criticism of such practices to be "rude".
We never hear that most members of almost any religion are there through childhood indoctrination. We never hear that most growth of religions that are growing is through birth rates and childhood indoctrination.
After all, who wants to think that they're part of a belief system that relies almost exclusively on childhood indoctrination and social pressure to keep its numbers where they are?

(725 posts)No other designations need apply, certainly no religious affiliations. Ethnicity designations may be assigned, (but are societal assignations, not real), and then there's the circumstances of birth, (born to a rich family or not, etc.)
No human is born other than "human".
One human being is only responsible for being one's self. No human being is responsible for some other idiot with stupid ideas or a mind set on destruction for whatever reason, (religious, political, psychotic, etc.)
Again, religion, is making stuff up. To ask followers of the Islamic faith to speak up and take responsibility for ISIS, Al Qaeda, etc. is as stupid as to ask Christians to speak up and take responsibility for the KKK, Oklahoma City bombing, etc.
See how it is religions that divide humans born human into so many different tribes?

People are born lots of things. It's called identity and when someone begins to claim various parts of that identity can vary a great deal and is sometimes hard to identify.
I do agree with you about how one can not hold all members of a specific faith (or non-faith) responsible for the actions of some of it's members.
Religion does divide people into different tribes and some of those tribes claim identities that include "not religious".

I watched while we talked and then saw the pair's bodies through the water, inside a tall wave that was breaking, their entire bodies!

I'm not sure what you mean by "sounds gross", unless you don't like being in a happy and positive mood.
Sincerely, is that a challenge for you?
I'd be happy to help if you feel you might be suffering unnecessarily from a condition that's keeping you down.
