Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office say they have bomb squads at the scenes of the two churches.
At the time of Sunday mass, two explosions were reported going off at Calvary church and at Holy Cross church according to Las Cruces Sun News. Sun News reports that police immediately started evacuating people.
Las Cruces police say the explosion at Calvary church came from a bomb in a mailbox and the explosion at Holy Cross church came from a trashcan and shattered windows.
Sun News reports that an explosion happened in a mailbox near Calvary Baptist Church Sunday morning with church members inside.

.. "It was a real bomb, I saw all the parts," said Cavalry Baptist member Dennis Llewellyn, who said he was outside the church when the explosive went off.
Llewellyn said he was a former special operations forces member with the Marines and recognized the bomb parts that included an Eveready battery. He and fellow church member, Mike Stewart, kept churchgoers arriving for the 8:30 a.m. service from going into the building during the five to 10 minutes it took for police to arrive. Stewart was the one to notice the debris and damaged mailbox, the two men said.
Llewellyn described the explosion as loud, and Stewart, who was inside, said it shook the building. Llewellyn said there were about 30 people inside the building when the explosion occurred ...

... Dennis Llewellyn said he was handing out pamphlets at Calvary Baptist, preparing for the 8:30 a.m. service, when he heard a "boom."
"It was in a mailbox that exploded completely," he said. "The mailbox was completely opened up and twisted and blown apart. It just obliterated everything. If anyone was in front of it, it would have killed them."
Llewellyn, who described himself as a former Marine, said the blast sounded like a Claymore ...
