Hillary Clinton is leading the Democratic Partys best chance in a generation to upend the myth that religious equals conservative.

From Slate:
With six months until the election, Hillary is running almost even among people who attend church regularly:
Among those who say religion is important in their life, shes doing even better:
This news is heartening to me as a Christian Democrat. And its politically significant for states with a lot of religious people like Georgia (where I was born) and North Carolina (where I was raised).

"Doesn't matter."
Ergo, Obama is a racist?
A fucked up syllogism. You're missing quite a few steps.

(7,309 posts)There are some Xians who are not racist. I speak in generalities. That 40 point gap is telling.

(82,333 posts)It existed only within white evangelicals.
Catholics voted for Obama 50 - 48.
Jewish voters went 78 - 21 for Obama.
Other faiths voted 74 - 23.
When given a choice between a white guy and a black guy, religion goes with the white guy.
When the choice is a white guy or a white woman, religion is less misogynistic than racist.

When they start preaching from the pulpit, its not a myth.
I can honestly say, I have experienced this and have not been back to church since.

We had been going there for many years.

(82,333 posts)The bishop was Martino who was, and is, very conservative. Usually around election time, instead of a sermon, the priest would roll a TV into the middle of the church and play a required 10 minte video of Martino's head preaching what values Catholics should consider before voting. He always stopped short of naming a party or a candidate but it was obvious. He retired early under unstated circumstances..
Everytime they did that, we got up and walked out. We always came back though. My kids started to look forward to it. "Are we walking out today?"
That church is much bigger than most of its small-minded leaders.

Of course she's as conservative as Reagan.... only more wishy-washy.
