(33,982 posts)The woodwork. The stone carvings. The intricate woven and in some cases, gilded cloth. Marble work.
All of it, is quite staggering in cost.
One wonders, what percentage of the wealth on display here was paid for by which social class and why?
I wouldn't be surprised to find the middle class and the poor foot the lions share of the bill, but I wonder if they realize it?

(82,333 posts)You'll find the history of the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest continuously black-owned property in D.C., and its construction, where tonight's Poor People's Campaign is being held, here:

You may also find interesting that this church was the site of the funerals of Frederick Douglass and Rosa Parks. I don't know how much was spent on either funeral.
Meanwhile, the event is streaming live now at the bottom of the page here: http://www.breachrepairers.org/
Maybe you can tally up the costs while watching.
Happy New Year.

(33,982 posts)Well, maybe your fifth Ave window was 80% depreciated when you got it, I don't know.
Seems to be multiple venues going here, but I'm glad to hear the costs were amortized over a long period of time.
