(7,886 posts)So did the OP. One person actually clicked on them and gave the answer as to why they were deleted, so Mystery solved (Still investigating rapture as cause)
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)You did this as a call out, plain and simple.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)That was not the intention, I saw a lot of deleted posts and was curious.
There is a lot of discussion that goes on here that could be counted as meta, but it only happens when someone wants to shut down discussion, instead of encouraging it.
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)That makes no sense.
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)Your agenda was to put a meta thread to mock another poster.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)So there's the reason i won't.
Second is that if i have a question about it, then surely others do too, and we don't want a bunch of these threads, right? (People don't even want one. What do people have against questions in this group?)
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)You can even start a new thread on it. I would oppose it but is still worth discussing.

What I find interesting is that, considering how much is said in this forum about intolerance by believers, there seems to be very little tolerance for positive posts about believers.
And a point was made about the claimed frequency of "atheists suck" posts, but my research skills must be really lacking because I cannot find any such posts. And the person whom I asked has not as yet responded, but when I do see all of these "atheists suck" posts I will join that poster in condemning such intolerance.

When I first got here peeps used to goad me, knowing that I was a noob. I got a couple of locks and hides that really hurt my feelings. This group has suddenly become very active, like a roiling stew of liquid contrition.
Falls into the forbidden four topics of conversation in my family. Sex, politics, money and ... yet here we are.
I'm thinking this is like the anti lounge at this point.

If you don't like that this forum allows religion to actually be questioned, there are other forums you can go to that are protected. I believe Skinner pointed one out to you. Interfaith might be good. Of course, there hasn't been a post there since January, but maybe you can go pick up the traffic there.

Act_of_Reparation
(9,116 posts)1) Calling out other DUer's ist verboten.
2) Providing said evidence would be tantamount to a call-out - You know this, seeing as what happened the last time you demanded proof.
Sorry. No proof for you.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)to provide proof.
A point was made about the recent spate of posts that focus exclusively on negative news about religion. A response to that post suggested that these negative posts might be a response to the many "atheists suck" posts here.
So, because I would like to condemn any such "atheists suck" posts, I asked for a link to these posts. We should all condemn such intolerance and the best way to demonstrate our values would be to link to these intolerant posts so we can all condemn them.
Agreed?
Act_of_Reparation
(9,116 posts)You don't dictate what should or should not make me happy. Trust me: nothing would please me less than getting a hide trying to satisfy such an irrelevant, narcissistic challenge.
You have a star membership and what appears to be plenty of spare time. If proving us atheists are bunch big old meanies is that important to you, have at it. Let us know what you find.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)When Trump made his claims of being wiretapped by President Obama, he was asked to provide some evidence of these claims.
As to proving anything about atheists, I do not feel that those atheists who frequent DU are spokespeople for atheism. I draw no conclusions about atheism from reading the responses.
Act_of_Reparation
(9,116 posts)You're not Obama, I'm not Trump, this isn't a court of law, and digging up nearly ten years' of historical context for newbies to the Religion group isn't my job or my idea of a good time. If you want to continue posting under the illusion that all your comrades in faith are friendly, understanding people and that the local atheists are a bunch of butthurt miscreants reading insult and injury where none exists, that's your prerogative. I don't care nearly enough to waste another second of my time trying in vain to divorce you of your biases.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)And bring back an old, and relevant question:
Keeping in mind what you just said "If anyone makes a claim, they should be more than happy to provide proof"
Where is the proof for your claim of a god?
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)Stating that there are many "atheists suck" posts on DU is a statement that there are such posts on DU. I asked for clarification, and asked if these were old posts.
My statement is that I believe in the Creator. And I also state that my belief is unprovable.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)The second logically concludes that no evidence is required to dismiss your claim of a creator, therefore no belief is required.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)But if a simple assertion qualifies in your eyes as a rebuttal..................
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)Now for the second issue..................................................
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)Justin asked why there were more posts here. I said maybe because of a lack of atheist suck posts keeping people away.
I in no way was saying that the current posts were "negative news about religion" and I didn't say that they were "a response to the many 'atheist suck' posts here." THAT is all fabrication on your part. I would appreciate you editing to correct. You can scroll above to see the whole conservation if you somehow think you are correct. Which you aren't.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)to keep people away?
Your thoughts?
And I argued that if there are such posts, I would speak against them. I have seen no such posts in the 2 plus years I have been here, nor have my searches shown anything like such posts. But that could be due to my search abilities. I also stated that I have seen, in my opinion, far more intolerance on DU for religion than for atheism.
Edited to add: My original response was
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)Never said that.
And it's cute that you are just ignoring the posts in this group that focus on the horrors of atheism. If you don't realize they are here, there is nothing I can do for you.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)Looking at the posts from the past month, it is obvious how heavily the posts are leaning.
AtheistCrusader
(33,982 posts)Members of this community are more likely than conservatives to be an atheist, 'agnostic', or 'none' depending on how you word the survey.
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/02/23/u-s-religious-groups-and-their-political-leanings/
And that graph is more telling than first glance, given the over-weighting of Evangelicals into the conservative camp. So of the believers that are left of center, they are less likely to be the kind of people that promote, talk about, or try to legislate based upon religious influence.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)Something about branding atheists intolerant because they kicked out a trump supporter....
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)How does that make atheists intolerant?
Trump supporters are often horribly bigoted, kicking one out of a group might have had something to do with that. Also many Trump fans are notorious trolls, they harass people on social media and even in meat space - so if he was kicked out I'm sure it was probably because he was some sort of asshole, not because those who kicked him out are intolerant.
I wish more of them would be kicked out of clubs.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)Some closed groups are quick to ban anyone who seems like a troll because people's livelyhoods can be threatened, like that teacher not too long ago. Things that theists don't have to worry about.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)Christian privilege is a thing. Look how many people admit they won't vote for an atheist in this country. Even one of our former presidents said we shouldn't be considered citizens:
George H.W. Bush
I served my country, so did my father and my brothers - all atheists - but we shouldn't be considered citizens or patriots because we're not Christian?
