(8,391 posts)Religious persecution and discrimination occurs all over the world on a daily basis, and for the purpose of this thread it is important to note that some of that persecution is carried out on Christians. So maybe you could be more specific: what attacks are you talking about?

(151,269 posts)I don't care what you believe. Why would I?
Unless what you believe causes you to harm others, you're more than welcome to whatever you can believe in, as far as I am concerned.
If, as some people who call themselves Christians do, your belief leads you to make life miserable for others, then I won't sit in silence. But, I doubt you do such things, so your beliefs most likely cause me and others no harm.

(7,886 posts)Aside from online comments (which are way out numbered by anti-atheistic comments) how is your religion being attacked?

(5,339 posts)And it must also be tough to now see that non-religious is a quickly growing group. So, yeah, you actually live in a country where you are still the majority, but everyone doesn't just bow to you and give you everything you want without question.
But, loss of privilege isn't an attack.

(151,269 posts)every Sunday, keeping people from entering to worship. I'm sick of people breaking down doors to stop people from praying in their homes. It makes me ill to hear of people demanding that Jesus Fish ornaments be removed from cars on our public streets. Organized burning of religious books and destruction of Christian bookstores needs to end.

(33,982 posts)Where do you get off with this fucking arrogance that *I* need to be 'saved' from anything?
Where the FUCK do you get off dismissing actual works, regardless of merit? We should CELEBRATE good works. That's what matters MOST, not least. It's not shameful to do good works. It's not worthless to do good works.
Just what, precisely, are you actually encouraging here? DO YOU EVEN HEAR YOURSELF?
You tell me I'm worthless, and it is beyond my capability to redeem myself in any way no matter what I do with my time and materials? And you wonder why people are hostile to your bullshit?
MineralMan
(151,269 posts)We're doing just fine as we are. If you're in need of salvation from something, go for it. We don't mind if you do.

(4,036 posts)...how is that rhetorically different from the over hyped right-wing trope: War on Christmas?

Mariana
(15,626 posts)the War on Christmas is, in fact, an over-hyped right wing trope. It's possible the author and the OP are among those Christians who fervently believe that saying "Happy Holidays" to people in December is a genuine attack on Christianity.
MineralMan
(151,269 posts)I think you have it.

You're assuming the author and the OP think the War on Christmas is, in fact, an over-hyped right wing trope.
Yes, that is correct, and not only that, I take it as an axiom:

a genuine attack on Christianity
Really?
If that is true, then it would be evidence that the author is a right-wing-nut-job and the OP was posted by a troll.
Let's test the hypothesis as to whether the meme War on Christmas is considered a right wing trope here on DU.
I'll post a poll, and we can see what people on DU believe.
If yes, then we can follow-up with a question asking whether posting such an idea/meme/trope violates DU rules.
yallerdawg
(16,104 posts)I don't think making up "memes" and "quotes" that don't exist in the OP or link is grounds for a violation on my part of DU rules.
But I've had stupider stuff hidden, so 'jury' away!

(4,036 posts)... i.e. how is "Attacks on Christianity" rhetorically different from the over hyped right-wing trope: War on Christmas?
Or are you content to continue rolling on the floor?
yallerdawg
(16,104 posts)You should hope the vast majority of Democrats are 'rolling on the floor' when you attack them in this intolerant and divisive way.
You are attacking people, you know.
NeoGreen
(4,036 posts)...are not persons.
That style of thought process leads down the road to "Corporations are People".
If you want a meaningful dialog, it would be helpful if would accept the concept that Ideas can be criticized and that they don't have feelings. I can criticize the ideas proffered by Christianity (i.e. blood sacrifice, original sin, literal resurrection, transubstantiation, heaven, hell, god, man-god, ghost-god, talking snakes, virgin birth) and it is not a criticism of persons.
NeoGreen
(4,036 posts)...when you link to crap like this in this OP: https://www.democraticunderground.com/1218268526
In my mind, that is evidence of a text-book version of a troll.
Mr. Campbell say that gays should ask for forgiveness from jesus, do you agree?
These resources not only discuss what the Bible has to say about homosexuality, they also talk about the hope, freedom, and forgiveness that homosexuals can have by embracing Jesus.
A troll is as a troll does.

(37,370 posts)I guess the author is talking about the larger audience that has grown for atheists and agnostics in demolishing the absurdity and illogical of the Christian faith.
I guess questioning the foundations of the religion and ecven questioning the very existence of Jesus using actual facts and critical thinking is considered an "attack".
