If Christ was killed in an electric chair would they build a 200 foot tall electric chair? Or a 200-foot long hypodermic needle for lethal injection?

Occasionally they build beautiful things too. This doesn't look like it will qualify for the latter sadly (although depending on finished proportions and what those yellow/blue insets are it has some chance of at least being ok), but de gustibus and all that.

It was an enormous madonna surrounded by smaller saints.

The whole thing was rather bizarre as there had just been a freakish hailstorm (in the middle of the summer). The monument was surrounded by a solid layer of ice balls.

Instead it will be used to build the world largest capital punishment device.

Point being: yes this is a waste of money, but we waste a lot of money on stupid things that don't really help anyone (except making those with too much time/money on their hands feel better).
