It's origins with Islam go all the way back to Muhammad.

It also has sectarian divisions. I thought everyone knew that. And different sects of Islam do things in different ways. They even go to war against each other, just like Christians have done in the past.

The biggest reason why adherents to Islam have been going to war with each other is because they believe only a successor to Muhammad can be the anointed dictator. That path of succession was split after the death of Muhammad and they have been fighting over it ever since. The parallels are closer to ancient Judaism and the succession of King David. Although there was certainly infighting in the first century, thanks to Roman standardization of Christianity, Christians didn't have a major beef with each other till after reformation.

...but not enough to designate a successor.

Probably one of the bigger "oops" moments in recorded history.

And you have prohibited ANYONE from defining religion for others.

Except when it's done to your liking or advancing your agenda, of course.
