Dallas police raid Catholic diocese properties in investigation of alleged sex abuse by clergy

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/15/us/dallas-catholic-diocese-sex-abuse-raid/index.html

Dallas police searched the headquarters of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas and other properties Wednesday as part of the church's widening sex abuse scandal, police and church officials said.

In a search warrant affidavit, a police investigator said the diocese had failed to reveal a full picture of sexual abuse allegations against a handful of its priests and, in some instances, handed over to authorities incomplete records on the accused.

"Despite assurances from the Diocese's attorneys the priests' files were complete and accurate, I also detailed specific examples where those files were not complete and accurate," Dallas police detective David Clark wrote in the affidavit, adding that efforts to obtain files about sex abuse claimants were "thwarted" by church officials.

Maj. Max Geron of the special investigations division said Wednesday's raids were related to allegations of sexual abuse that emerged after police issued an arrest warrant for a priest named Edmundo Paredes, who was previously assigned to St. Cecilia's Parish in Dallas. Authorities said they consider Paredes a fugitive.

It's additional evidence that the RCC hierarchy is putting stumbling blocks in the way of law enforcement and the law in general. It grudgingly hands over some information, while concealing other information that demonstrates the church's culpability in the epidemic of child sexual abuse by priests and bishops.

The hierarchy's goal clearly includes concealment and obfuscation of efforts by lay authorities to root out the horrible crimes committed by members of its clergy. The rot within the RCC includes the very top levels of its leadership.

The corruption and defensive evasion are deep, invasive, and systemic. The only solution, in the end, will be to dissolve the organization completely and for its followers to seek other organizations.

Sex crimes against children will simply continue to be reported within the hierarchy. Just as they have been all along, followed by the hierarchy hiding the information from civil authorities.

The rot has spread to the highest level.

Still, what about those Chinese atheists?
