is that Constantine and his court looked around at their collapsing empire and made a desperate but ultimately wise political decision. They decided to usurp what looked to be a very effective and popular cult, (The adherents were loyal to the death for crying out loud!) permitting them to extend their empire under new clothing and continue their conquering of the world. It has worked for centuries.
