My first thought was Ash Wednesday, but it's way too early. Then I remembered we're in September, and that jogged my memory. Have you not done anything you're sorry for, Ed? If you have, who would you apologize to?

I am mostly sorry for not treating myself right. But if I wronged someone, I would apologize to them, not God.
I think COVID has minimized the amount of interactions one can be sorry for.

But at times I feel like the counter Edith Piaf, "I regret everything!"

I'm not sure I'm actually a theist. I 'm kind of a pantheist, God is in all or God is all. I think the notion of a God sitting on a throne in Heaven is rather childish. But there is so much shit I wish I could do over and I wish I could just pray about it and feel all better about it, but that wouldn't work. I'm over the hill now, but I hope that in the time I have left I find a way to make up for my stupidity and bullshit. Is that atonement?

There is feeling bad about and regret, and the overwhelming guilt religion wants you to feel.

(not much choice, since my father was a rabbi), I always resented the recitation of sins I was supposed to be asking forgiveness for. Some of them, I didn't consider sins. Some of the others, I hoped I'd some day get the chance to commit.

you are twelve years old and you are asking forgiveness for things you dream of doing.

I also felt God was a little thin skinned to take offense at some much.

I am volunteering for political campaigns. Great exercise, but I did encounter a Q-nut a few weeks ago.
