(36,063 posts)Religions are very good at creating behaviors, practices that identify individuals as 'we' constrasted with 'them'.
You can google large numbers of religions and find that clothing becomes a statement of faith/discipline. Should we make fun of them all or just those that we think are bizarre?
And when you count Mormon garments as bizarre, please tell Senate majority leader Harry Reid who wears the same undies that his is a fucking cultist.

(20,885 posts)Most religions include characteristic superstitions.
Remember that we look as strange to them as they do to us.

(10,618 posts)... God only loves you if you wear a funny hat.
The only things religions can't seem to agree on is WHICH funny hat you have to wear.
The Pope, The Dalai Lama, The Pastafarians, The Sikhs, The Muslims, The Hasidic Jews, The Native Amercans, ...
We could have world peace if these people could only agree on which silly hat was the right one to wear!

(15,675 posts)A fellow liberal friend who traveled a lot as part of her job, found herself in SLC once, and she says she guessed she appeared Mormon enough to buy a pair (she says normally you have to show some sort of Mormon ID card that says you're still in good standing with the church). It was my Xmas gift one year. Don't care for the shorts, but the t-shirt is nice.

(4,276 posts)that they expect to go other planets and become gods there if they've lived a righteous life here. That is no joke...that's part of their reward for following the teachings of their god who used to be a mortal on another planet. This mortal lived the righteous life, and he and his wife (?) came to Earth and had children...one of whom was Jesus.
And the GOP seriously wants someone who believes all this (and more) to lead the greatest nation in the world?
The Mormons make the Fundamentalists look sane, IMO.
Now don't get me wrong. I support that people can believe what they choose, but until we have complete separation of church and state, I see believers of this calibre to be dangerous.

(5,901 posts)Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers. That just doesn't go over with Southern Baptists in Texas. I have them in my family and they are Republicans who can't vote for a Mormon.

(4,276 posts)...likes lots and lots of property value, etc. but when few members would comply, the church president went back and "asked" god for guidance and was "told" to change to the 10%. Go figure...

I say they're all fair game. You don't. Was just curious where you draw that line.
