Indus Script symbols have spiritual significance

The Indus Script parallels with early Indian coins and broader symbolism to help decipher this early language. There is a mythological link between the Indus script symbols, early India coins, Middle-Eastern and Indian mythology and even symbolism as far away as Polynesia. ..

The Indus Seals have many similarities to other seals found in the region, such as those from early Sri Lanka. When the symbols are the same and the meaning is known from one region, a clue has been found. Also, anyone interested in the subject of deciphering a lost script can often bring a new approach that makes the tried and true scholars a bit baffled. Interestingly, early Indian Coin collectors play a part in this decipherment of the Indus Script

Thanks for looking anyway.
The spiritual story regarding the symbols perhaps needs further identification.... (maybe in a narrative - like the Story of Pi....)

..to imbue them with a spiritual significance which they do not intrinsically possess'?

A symbol is not necessarily a spiritual flag automatically. Consider one symbol, the Caduceus (Snake wrapped around a pole). Today we see it on the Star of Life used as the symbol of modern medicine. Prior to this it was the Rod of Asclepius, also used by Hermes, Iris and Mercury all who may have taken their symbol from a 4000 year old Mesopotamian messenger god, Ningishzida, who served the Mother Earth goddess. The serpent on a pole is also a symbol used by Moses among the Hebrews and peace symbol for ancient India kings. The symbol is found on the Indus Script and gives a common spiritual element across the ages.

1. Record commercial transactions, or
2. Record magical or religious text.

Sometimes they serve both functions, such as the tablets recording tribute to Sumerian temples or due to Pharaoh (aka the Living Horus).

A friend of mine worked at Monhenjo Daro a couple years ago. He loved it.
