Has anyone here read 'Braiding Sweetgrass'?

I downloaded the audiobook from my library and listened to it as I was prepping a new planting zone a few weeks ago. I had no suppositions - I just chose a book that sounded interesting.

The book has had a very profound effect on me. As I was tossing rocks and pulling weeds it seems to have wound into me like binderweed - but in a good way. The audiobook is read by the author. I found myself pulling off my gloves to rewind Many times. I postponed the last 15 minutes of the book for 3 days because I did not want it to end.

I cannot recommend this book more highly. It is like 'Silent Spring' for our time, but with beauty.

I finished the book 2 weeks ago, but it is not finished with me.

Few books have had such a profound effect on me. Find it. Read it. See what happens in your world.

Growing up surrounded by Native tribes gave me a unique possibility. I chose to Look and SEE. I see the authors word view - her tribes are thousands of miles away, but their Truth is mine as well.

It is a philosophy that I had in my mind but had no words for, she supplied them.
I’ve worked the earth all my life sometimes for beauty, most for substance.
Recognizing what’s around you is paramount. We look we don’t see.

Veggies are my major focus, natural medicinals are an interesting side branch that I’m learning slowly focusing on what grows around my property, Meadowsweet, Bee Balm, Yarrow, Plantain, Comfrey, Goldenrod, Elderberry and St. John’s Wort. Nature will give you what you need to have if only you listen and see what’s being offered.

GATHERING MOSS is another great book by Robin.

I looked up Robin Wall Kimmerer and it appears she has a brand new book to be released later this year...The Democracy of Species. I didn’t know about any of her writings...I will dive right in. Again, thank you.

Got the e book from my library!

Stunning and life-changing on every level!! I feel just as you do about it, alittlelark!

Truth be told - I've been reading (and renewing!) it for MONTHS because I can't bear for it to end!!

Wow - that's a lot of !!!!!. Guess you can tell I really love this book! 😅

I was fortunate to work on Indian reservations for a number of years. I sleep under braided sweetgrass on my headboard!
