EAST BRUNSWICK TOWNSHIP
Press Release from the Office of the Mayor
Late this afternoon I learned about the blatant Anti-Semitic act regarding the 2024 edition of the high-school yearbook. The action resulted in a picture of Muslim students replacing the original photograph of the Jewish students that are part of the Jewish Student Union Club. In addition, there is a complete absence of names of the Jewish students. I have been assured by Dr. Victor Valeski, Superintendent of the East Brunswick Public School System, that a complete investigation is under way. The administration will need to determine:
1. How did this happen?
2. What person or persons are responsible?
3. Who are the yearbook advisors and who signed off on this page?
4. Did this act occur at the publisher end?
5. How will perpetrators be held accountable?
6. Does this constitute a hate crime and how will this be prosecuted?
I will await the results of the investigation by the school administration and implore them to do this with haste. I have been assured that they will provide their findings to the public when the investigation has been completed.
At a minimum, I have also been assured that new yearbooks will be ordered and distributed with the correct pictures and names.
Hate has no place in East Brunswick and Anti-Semitism will not be tolerated.

This kind of hate cannot be ignored nor rationalized away.

Check out Jews Dont Count by David Baddiel. He argues that anti-Jewish racsism (as opposed to anti-semitism) is not viewed as serious by progressives as other forms of bigotry. Published in 2021, it points the finger at those who feel they are on the right side of history. It was an ok read, but I just found a podcast on the subject. Check it out.
