Anti-Semitic fliers calling for an end to Jewish privilege have been strewn all over the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, according to student Eva Zeltser, who posted an image of the poster with her commentary on Tuesday.
Ending white privilege starts with ending Jewish privilege, the flier shouts, purporting to show with false statistics that Jews monopolize the wealth of America.
Forty-four percent of American Jews, it alleges, are in the top 1% of income earners, a gross exaggeration of the facts, claiming to base the assertion on data from a Pew study. That Pew study, on income across different religious groups, found that 46 percent of Jewish households in America make over $100,000, hardly a sum that puts one in the 1%.
Found all over the UIC campus. Things like these posters are actively posted to catalyze anti-Semitism and increase hate toward Jews, she wrote in a Facebook post. While I try to abstain from writing personal narratives on Facebook, enough is enough. If you are against hate crimes against one group, you should be against these acts of violence for ALL groups.

(3,013 posts)As Jews we can usually count our allies on one hand. On a good day. Right and left have htred for us. Diverse campus just means diverse reasons for antisemitism.

(53,951 posts)Frankly, though no group is mentioned, I would almost bet money this was not a "right leaning" group, but a "left-leaning" one. It could also just be a plant, especially given there is no contact info or the like. I have seen this type of propaganda from certain aspects of the far left.
"Diverse campus just means diverse reasons for antisemitism."
How sad that your statement is actually true.

(1,777 posts)That's very clear. Use of "goyim" and playing off Jews versus "white men" says this is from the far right, but they're making use of left-wing tropes in an attempt to appeal to a simple-minded strain of student activism.

(907 posts)... this current upsurge of racist and antisemitic activities began around the time Donald Trump was elected President?
Coincidence? I think not.
Yes, the poster is disgusting.

(3,051 posts)But it's not. The antisemites are doing their best to co-opt anything -- progressive or RW, it doesn't matter.
We need a William Buckley* for the left to purge this crap out of the progressive movement.

(5,275 posts)These hate groups against the "other" have to be stamped out and stamped out soon.
If decent people fight back and we reclaim our country, and the WH and congress, item one should be restoring the Fairness Doctrine. Bye bye Fox News, One America News, etc....unless they stop lying/filtering out bad things about one party only.
I have talked to more than one Faux News devotee and they had not heard about Trump mocking a handicapped reporter, or bragging about walking into a locker room with naked 13 year old girls. Those things just don't make the cut with those clowns on "Fox And Friends" or Lumpy.

(53,951 posts)That said, even I can see the inherent mistakes in the numbers and the "alternate facts" put forth made by lazy analysis. This type of anti-Semitism is quite popular an is making a big comeback. I saw it a few years ago in articles coming from Greece, Hungary, and (shit, I can't remember the other nation! Damn it!). The "money myth" has even made an appearance recently in liberal/left leaning sites and articles, not the extremes, but the more mainstream ones. That's how bad it is getting.

In a letter to students, faculty and staff, Chancellor Michael D. Amiridis and other university officials reaffirmed UIC's commitment to "the importance of tolerance, inclusion and diversity" and also "the right to free expression."
"Today, anti-Semitic posters were found on campus that defame, insult and negatively portray Jewish members of our campus community," the UIC announcement reads. "Such actions do not reflect the values we hold as a community. Acts that invoke hatred or violence toward members of our community will not be tolerated on our campus."
"As we investigate this recent event, we strongly encourage all members of our university to exercise their right to free speech in a manner that recognizes these principles and avoids prejudice or stereotypes," the alert adds.
Zeltser told Chicagoist that that the university's response was "better than what we've seen in past." She said the school "still has a ways to go" in getting rid of anti-Semitism on campus.
UIC representatives did not comment further about the incident beyond the campus announcement.

(53,951 posts)--snip--
The new flyers make explicitly anti-Semitic references, and continue to accuse Jews of enjoying Jewish Privilege and controlling the US.
One of the four new flyers compares Zionism to Nazism, contrasting a picture of Auschwitz where over 1.5 million innocent Jews were murdered, with a picture labelled Gaza.
The largest Concentration Camp [sic] in the world today is owned and operated by Zionists, the flyer claims.
The new series of flyers even appears to anticipate criticism of the anti-Semitic messages, claiming the documents are not anti-Semitic; rather they are part of the pursuit of Social Justice.
Standing up for Palestine is not anti-Semitic. It is not defamatory. It does not insult anyone. It is Social Justice.
