New Arabic Translation of Talmud Promotes Anti-Semitic Narratives

A newly released Arabic translation of the Talmud – the first of its kind – contains an introduction that seeks to revive age-old anti-Semitic conspiracies about the Talmud, including the accusation that the ancient text reveals the racist character of the Jewish people. The introduction also attempts to paint Israel as the modern-day embodiment of the alleged racist ideologies found in the Talmud.

The translation, which was published by the Middle East Studies Center (MESC), a Jordan-based think tank, specifically couples anti-Semitic narratives with anti-Israel propaganda: “The discrimination which Arabs in Israel face is an extension of the racist spirit included in many Talmud texts and explanations.”

Al-Jazeera has specifically promoted this book as a contribution to the “establishment of Arabic language Jewish studies” as well as claiming that the translation “identifies the features of the Jewish character that blend elements of racial superiority with Mosaic teachings.”

Personally I'm not outraged at all, not even mildly surprised given that anti-semitic sentiment in Jordan is near 100% according to a very large 2005 study done by Pew Global Research.

Mostly I think it's ironic for the authors to mis-use Jewish texts to accuse a democratic nation like Israel, with full freedom of the press and a commitment to pluralism of institutional racism when the authors of this garbage live in a country run by a miniscule ethnic minority who didn't even originate in the area. Jordan is the very definition of a racist country.

You have posted in the Jewish group. Anti-semitism and defense and/or minimization of anti-Semitism is not welcome here. Your comment is akin to someone saying, "well, it would be a lot easier to be outraged by her rape, if she weren't wearing what she wore." While not a flat-out defense of the rape, it is a minimization and it is "blaming the victim." Your type of comments are not welcome here, nor will the be further tolerated.
