(Jewish Group) It's time to call out campus anti-Semitism by both the left and the right

(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!)

American colleges are grappling with the challenge of striking the right balance between maintaining a safe, welcoming environment and one where freedom of speech and inquiry are prized. But it’s not a hard call, or it shouldn’t be, when dealing with bigotry and discrimination on campus.

Unfortunately, U.S. colleges are increasingly the scenes of anti-Semitic incidents, the continuation of a trend that we at the Anti-Defamation League tracked last year, when such episodes nearly doubled — to 204, from 108 in 2016. The rise on college campuses reflected a nationwide spike in anti-Semitism, when the incidents increased 57 percent, to 1,986, from 1,267.

Campus anti-Semitism has come from across the political spectrum. For several years now, alt-right and neo-Nazi groups have targeted college campuses to spread their hateful ideologies and recruit young people for their movements. The ADL found that white supremacist propaganda on college campuses nearly doubled in the 2017-18 school year from the year prior.

I can only speak from my own experience. My liberal friends don't care what other peoples' sex orientation is. My male friends have never sex harassed me. My female friends have never complained to me about a liberal guy being sex inappropriate with them.

I asked you to cite examples of liberal anti-semitism. So do you even have any?

I didn't ask what your friends think about people's sexual orientation. I didn't ask if YOU were personally harassed. I asked:

Do you think there is racism on the left? What about homophobia? What about sexism? Do you think any of those exist on the left?

The author's example of "from the left" antisemitism is the objection to Israel's Palestinian blockades, illegal settlements and the like. Then he goes off the rails in full Likud mode by proclaiming that this somehow represents "policies that would end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state." It's no wonder the ADL isn't taken seriously by many Jews. This is Greenblatt's whataboutism.

Is just all about I/P discourse.

No one believes that anymore. Most of us are well aware that alleged I/P discourse is the shield antisemitism on the left attempt to hide behind. And not well at all.

Yes, anti-semitism exists on both sides - it's there....

However, the dog-whistles are being blown far more on the right than the left. The left does not engage in out-right murder which has cover given by the President.

This type of fair and balanced innuendo smacks more of Faux than not. And it's about as constructive as Faux news...

While I agree, the right does FAR more blatant and deadly anti-Semitism, it is wrong to stick one's head in the sand and pretend anti-Semitism isn't an issue on the right, just as it is a disservice to pretend racism doesn't exist on the left. Bigotry should always be called out, no matter the side.

Just not seeing nor hearing this in the emotion....

I have a friend, who swore off guns after his son’s suicide now wondering if he was right in his dispersal of his guns. Now thinking about why not taking a gun to temple!

This is because of the right, not the left. No equivalence.

I can't believe I am even saying this to you! You know it exists on the left, you've said as much. There is NOT a goddamned thing wrong with calling it out. It doesn't have to "equal" from both sides to be worthy of admonishment. That, Lithos, is one of the fucking goddamned problems! Look at this thread...two of the three posters, other than me have NEVER posted in the Jewish group...NEVER, yet THIS, because someone dares to call anti-Semitism on the left...not even saying they are EQUALLY bad, but merely calling it out, and they jump! I am supposed to be "Jew-oogle" for one poster, and the other, while NEVER denying it (anti-Semitism on the left) makes allegations about the ADL. It doesn't matter this is the Jewish group, they feel privileged to say what ever the fuck they want, even in a Jewish group!

11 dead Jews, and still people FROM THE LEFT whine about being included in having to be on the lookout from anti-Semitism even it comes from our camp! WHY?@!?@ Do you think racism exists on the left? What about sexism? Do you think it is worse on the right or the left? I am guessing you will say the right, so does this mean we should never discuss, call out, or comment on racism and sexism (as well as other forms of bigotry) when it comes from OUR side?!

And I have never said to stop in the vigilance and education

Today Trumpism is enabling a group of people who are active in physically harming and attacking Jews. It has allowed and promoted the import of a harsh RW ideology from Europe which would gleefully exterminate Jews and other minorities. This is far more organized and dangerous than any outcome resulting from those on the Left.

Yes, there are people on the Left, and even people here on this board who have promulgated anti-Semitic memes thinking they were doing some greater good (BDS, others). And if left to continue, they will ultimately do the work of the RW extremists by their inactions. This is dangerous as well, but in a different way.

The response to each is not the same - I see far more urgency with dealing with the RW extremists which will require a political solution starting with the mid-terms. It is a sucking chest wound that is threatening to get worse quickly. The issue with the Left is one of raising awareness and education. If people from the Left are whining about it and avoiding their responsibilities, then yes, they are encouraging anti-Semitism.

My energies of late have been in trying to make the political change necessary to alter the fundamentals which are encouraging and promoting this RW ideology.
