Often we keep people in mind while doing this who need some healing. Some people recite psalms too. The MeSheberach is a healing prayer as well recited publicly at a synagogue. And when many people make challah every week, they separate a small portion that is discarded or burned. When we make challah many of us often pray for family members or friends or anyone who needs some extra help.

Sorry if I was confusing!

I'm not familiar with Jewish traditions, being a lapsed Christian, but this sounds like a lovely one. I'll definitely be keeping RBG in mind in my own way.

Some families make them their English names as well as their Hebrew names, others just use them for Hebrew names. Yita means light though, which is perfect for her. She has been a light upon the nation.

It's the cantor and his kids.

I like that some of it in English, the whole CD is really good.

Debbie Freidman was a musical genius, her version of havdalah is unparalleled.
