According to GNFE President Professor Elchin Khalilov, the detailed analysis of ATROPATENA station records indicates a powerful energy release emanating from the Earth's core. According to the scientist, this fact may herald intensification of geodynamic processes in our planet and as a result, a higher number of strong earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.
As GNFE President Professor Elchin Khalilov told WOSCO news agency, ATROPATENA earthquake forecasting stations record particular three-dimensional gravitational anomalies that occur, on average, 3-7 days before strong earthquakes. These anomalies are generated by the passingof tectonic waves (stress waves) under the stations; they are emitted by the focuses of imminent large earthquakes at the moment when the stresses in them reach critical values.

(111,141 posts)and it would seem there is a cyclical nature to massive vulcanism. While we can determine the rough periodicity of individual volcanoes, we don't seem to be tracking the massive eruptions like the Siberian Traps or the Deccan Traps that devastated planetary populations when they occurred.
To assume this stuff has ended forever is a massive error.
I just hope Yellowstone holds off until I am safely dead and gone. That's one I don't want to try to live through, thanks.

The accuracy of short-term prediction of earthquakes is more than 90%. New philosophy and the applied physical principle of earthquake prediction, patented in PCT (Geneva), are completely different from common methods and technologies of short-term prediction of earthquakes.

One would hope their understanding of geology exceeds their understanding of the Patent Cooperation Treaty international application process, which doesn't "patent" anything.
But when you run into patent misinformation in the first paragraph or so of the description of a scientific endeavor, it's usually not a good sign.

(36,247 posts)... who is also the President of the GNFE. He also publishes his own journal, which appears to be just about the only outlet for info on ATROPATENA. In other words, it's basically a one-man show. Outside verification is sorely needed.
This so-called method of earthquake prediction seems to have found political backing --which means funding -- in some countries, but there seems to be a dearth of verification of the method by established scientists. This is the usual pattern among self-promoters who seek to mine scientifically naive politicians for gov't largesse, thus bypassing the usual funding agencies, who are more skeptical (justifiably so) of uncorroborated theories.
One of his "patents" is for a METHOD FOR RECORDING GRAVITY QUANTUM EFFECTS AND DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT SAID METHOD. Last I heard, there was no generally accepted theory of quantum gravity. More generally, he claims to be measuring gravitational impulses. This is an area in which a great many people have been doing research, and building experimental detectors, for some decades now. Suddenly, this guy comes out of nowhere and claims to be doing it routinely, precisely, and with extermely small detectors (which raises questions of its own).
The Wikipedia entry on Elchin Khalilov is rather uncritical, and appears to have pretty much the same info as the GNFE publicity page. In fact, all the Web sources for GNFE, WOSCO, and ATROPENTA seems to be little more than paeans to the brilliance of Prof. Elchin Khalilov, with lots of photos of him posing with politicians and scientific dignitaries, and lots of lists of brilliant inventions. Some of the more humble ones seem to be perfectly legit; his background is in petroleum geology and geophysics, but he seems to have ventured well outside his area of verifiable expertise by claiming to be able to predict earthquakes with great precision.
I strongly suspect this is no more legitimate than BlackLight Power.
If anyone can provide some scientific bona fides for this project, I'll unlock this thread.
