Thomas Edison.

http://www.businessinsider.com/thomas-edison-light-bulb-publicity-stunt-2013-11

"Thomas Edison did not try 10,000 times before inventing the light bulb, nor did he labor in a dusty workshop by himself.

That's according to David Burkus, author of "The Myths of Creativity," who says America's favorite innovation story may have been the result of a tremendous publicity push."

I'll bet most people still subscribe to the light bulb myth. It is a piece of genyoowine Americana.

Edison had a sense of fun. His machine to contact the dead, for instance, was a joke. dimbear Nov 2013 #9

His idea of alternating current was much superior to Edison's more dangerous direct current.

Should've been mentioned as one of the people who came up with some of the ideas in Edison's lab.

And mentioned because he went on to make major inventions and break throughs himself.

I'm too tired to get the links, but he was not all he's made to be.

He pressured people and bullied others.

who hired people to do his tinkering for him. Oh, I doubt he was devoid of ideas and I doubt he never contributed. That just wasn't his job.
